My name is Samantha Guarini and I am an undergraduate student at Roger Williams University currently studying Public Relations and Marketing. I am originally from North Andover, Massachusetts, and I am also a dedicated member of the varsity women’s lacrosse team, where I continue to strengthen my leadership, communication, and critical thinking abilities. My interest in communications—particularly sports media—stems from a personal passion I developed growing up. From an early age, I loved watching the New England Patriots with my dad, and our annual tradition of watching the Super Bowl together sparked not only my love of football but also my appreciation for the power of sports to bring people together.

Why Athletics?

From a very young age I knew I wanted to be a collegiate athlete. More specifically, I wanted to be a collegiate athlete at RWU because I’ve always thrived in competitive, team-oriented environments that push me to grow both on and off the field. Lacrosse has become such a huge part of who I am that I couldn’t imagine going to college without it — it’s shaped my routine, my discipline, and my drive. The sport gives me structure, balance, and a sense of purpose that carries into every part of my college experience.

My Perspective as a Female Athlete and Broadcaster

As a female athlete and a woman trying to break into the male-dominated field of sports broadcasting, I think it is important for women to know that their voices, perspectives, and presence matter in shaping the future of sports. Women in athletics and media not only inspire the next generation but also bring balance, representation, and strength to a field that thrives on diversity and passion.
